Do You Poop Out at Parties?

“Are you tired, rundown, listless? Do you poop out at parties?” Lucy 1 (2)And so goes Lucille Ball in her famous “Vitameatavegamin” routine during the early years of her TV show. But I also know many of us are growing weary. We’re over committed, running ragged at the edges, with nothing left by the end of the day. We desire to give our utmost to ministry, but there’s so much to do that it’s difficult to focus on what’s important and where God wants you to serve. Are you stretched thin from doing too many things? Good things. Perhaps God is calling you to choose carefully what you say “yes” to. Granted, it would be easier to take Lucy’s magic tonic, but God calls us to pray and submit ministry and service opportunities to Him. Listen to our Lord, then pick one or two things and do them well.

We’re excited to announce that our readers can now follow A Pearl of Great Value through Pinterest. pinterest-1007135_640I’ve had a lot of fun setting this up and encourage you to “pin” your favorite devotions. You’ll find the button to follow us on Pinterest on the left sidebar. The “pin” button is below each post next to the buttons to print and email.

Please consider joining our email list, though, so you will have access to the devotions sooner than when they’re posted on our website or on Pinterest. I will email out the next devotion on Thursday, July 7.

Birthdays That End in “0”

When I was getting ready to turn 10 I had difficulty containing my excitement because I was entering double digits. birthday-cake-757102_640While in college, I turned 20 and my boyfriend, later to become my husband, told me he loved me the prior week. Turning 30 was a whirlwind with two young daughters and a husband who traveled constantly in his profession. I’ll stop there, but this is a big one, and I’ll let you do the math. Hint: we now have five grandchildren and celebrated 38 years of marriage a few months ago.

Make Your Reservation

As I’ve thought further about my earlier post and the beauty of the Augusta National Golf Club, I’m reminded of John 14:2.cloud-593161_640 “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.” Heaven is real and our Lord has prepared a special place for each of us who trust in and call on Him as Lord and Savior. The beauty will be indescribable–make sure you put in your reservation.

There’s only one way to reserve your special place in heaven. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

And Heaven Will Be Even Better

IMG_2953copy

Sacred and hallowed aptly describe the unfolding beauty I see when I walk upon the grounds of the Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters Golf Tournament. If you’re not a golfer, please bear with me, but this is an extraordinary experience. We’ve been privileged to have been there twice now, four years ago and once again earlier this week. As I catch my breath, amazed at all I see, I can only imagine how much better heaven will be. All this will pale in comparison.
